Chivu after the derby: “Last year we had something more”
The Inter coach revisits his attacking choices and compares the current team’s performances with those of last season.
After the 3-1 derby defeat against Milan, Cristian Chivu returned to Inter’s starting choices and to his team’s performance. The Nerazzurri coach rejected an explanation based only on the lineup, outlining the circumstances that influenced his attacking options.
The coach explained that Pio Esposito was not fully fit, while Ange-Yoan Bonny had a fever. This clarification is important when assessing the attacking setup, but it was accompanied by a broader reflection on the squad’s performances: “Last year we had something more.” Chivu did not identify one department or one player as the cause of the defeat. Instead, he focused on the overall quality shown by Inter compared with last season. His words describe a team that must recover sharpness and consistency.
The San Siro defeat ended the run opened by wins over Fiorentina, beaten 2-1 on October 25, and Venezia, defeated 2-0 on October 28. Inter have no time to stop: on Tuesday, November 3, at 21:00, they will visit Feyenoord in the Champions League. The Nerazzurri will then face Como at San Siro on Sunday, November 8, at 18:00.
