Vanoli backs Dodô and revisits the back three: “I was massacred last year”
The Fiorentina coach looks ahead to the Inter clash and opens the door to a start for Dodô, while addressing the criticism over his back-three system.
On the eve of the match against Inter, Paolo Vanoli also discussed Fiorentina’s possible tactical choices. The Viola coach returned to the subject of a back-three formation, a system he used last season that drew particularly harsh criticism. Dodô is also among the players being considered for the game, with the coach suggesting that the Brazilian could start.
“Last year you massacred me over the back three,” Vanoli recalled during the interview, responding to the doubts surrounding that setup at the time. The coach has not ruled out using three central defenders again and left the door open to a starting place for the Brazilian wing-back. Fiorentina’s final lineup decisions will be made close to kickoff.
Inter enter the fixture after two positive results: a 3-1 Serie A win away to Bologna and a 1-0 home victory over Shakhtar in the Champions League on October 21. Chivu’s team will face Fiorentina on Sunday, October 25, at 12:30, before traveling to Venezia on October 28 and playing the derby against Milan on October 31.
