Inter, sponsorless shirt in Rotterdam: the reason is regulatory
Inter wore a shirt without its main sponsor against Feyenoord: the explanation lies in different advertising rules.
Inter’s victory in Rotterdam also featured a curious detail: in the 3-0 win over Feyenoord, the Nerazzurri took to the pitch wearing a shirt without their usual main sponsor. It was neither a new kit nor an aesthetic decision, but the result of different rules governing shirt advertising in Italy and international competitions.
The logo displayed on Inter’s shirt can be used in the Italian context because of a specific regulatory framework. That solution, however, cannot automatically be transferred abroad. Therefore, in the match played on 3 November at De Kuip, the club chose not to display the logo and used a more minimal version of the kit. The Champions League operates under a separate set of regulations from those applied to Serie A matches.
The commercial issue did not affect Inter’s performance, as the team won 3-0 away to Feyenoord. After the European success, attention will return to the league: on Sunday 8 November at 18:00, Inter host Como. The next Champions League fixture is scheduled for 25 November at 21:00, at San Siro, against Stuttgart.
