Inter, Chivu takes responsibility: “Different expectations in the Champions League”
The Nerazzurri coach accepts the blame and underlines the different demands of the European campaign.
Cristian Chivu is taking responsibility for Inter’s Champions League campaign and has addressed the central issue surrounding the team’s European path. In comments reported today, Tuesday 27 October 2026, the Nerazzurri coach acknowledged his role in managing the squad, explaining that expectations in Europe do not necessarily match those in the league.
The coach’s message was clear: “I am responsible.” Chivu also stressed that there are “different expectations in the Champions League”, a reminder that Inter must operate in an environment where every detail matters and the demands remain high. His statement comes after Inter’s European victory over Shakhtar, beaten 1-0 in the match played on 21 October.
The schedule provides immediate tests. Before returning to Europe, Inter will visit Venezia on Wednesday 28 October at 18:30 and face Milan in the derby on Saturday 31 October at 20:45. The trip to Feyenoord is then scheduled for Tuesday 3 November at 21:00, in the fourth Champions League round. Inter head into these fixtures after three straight wins: Bologna 1-3, Shakhtar 1-0 and Fiorentina 2-1.
