Chivu takes responsibility and defends Inter
The Nerazzurri coach rejects the criticism and personally takes responsibility ahead of Inter’s match against Fiorentina.
Cristian Chivu has chosen to put himself forward to protect Inter. In a message circulated today, Sunday 25 October 2026, the Nerazzurri coach defended his team and accepted responsibility for the situation, without making excuses or shifting the burden of the difficulties onto his players.
The statement comes during a demanding run of fixtures and mixed results. In the Champions League, Inter lost 4-3 to Club Brugge on 13 October, then reacted in Serie A by beating Bologna 3-1 on 17 October. The following European victory, a 1-0 result against Shakhtar on 21 October, restored some solidity to the continental campaign. Chivu, however, chose to focus attention on his own role: “The responsibility is mine”.
The answer must now come on the pitch. Inter face Fiorentina today at 12:30 in Serie A, before travelling to Venezia on Wednesday 28 October at 18:30. The schedule also includes the derby against Milan on Saturday 31 October at 20:45. The team must build on the Bologna win and turn the coach’s public defence into a concrete performance.
