The derby on 31 October 2026 ended in a heavy defeat for Inter: Milan won 3-1, extending the Nerazzurri’s run to three consecutive city derbies without a victory. Chivu’s team made the worst possible start. After just four minutes, Diego Moreira beat Carlos Augusto and crossed for Christian Pulisic, who headed in the opener. Soon afterwards, Adrien Rabiot surprised the defence from a corner and doubled Milan’s lead.

Inter responded mainly through aerial attacks. Yann Bisseck tested Mike Maignan, before Alessandro Bastoni pulled one back by finishing after Manuel Akanji’s flick-on from a Hakan Calhanoglu set piece. The French goalkeeper then denied Djed Spence an equaliser with an outstanding save. Before half-time, Moreira scored from a free-kick conceded after a foul by Nicolò Barella, restoring Milan’s two-goal advantage.

After the break, Inter created chances, but Carlos Augusto missed from close range and Aleksandar Pavlovic stopped Barella inside the area. Thuram’s effort was comfortably dealt with by Maignan. Chivu sent on Zielinski, Mkhitaryan, Pio Esposito, Bonny and Dimarco to increase the attacking pressure. A penalty awarded to Milan for an alleged handball by Gila was also overturned after a VAR review.

The late pressure produced no change. Inter suffered their first Serie A defeat of the season and must respond on Tuesday 3 November 2026 at 21:00 away to Feyenoord in the Champions League.
