Berti praises Barella and Carlos Augusto: “Inter fans called me a mercenary”
The former Nerazzurri midfielder recalls his move from Fiorentina to Inter and praises two key players in Chivu’s team.
Nicola Berti shared several thoughts about his Nerazzurri past and the current Inter team in an interview published today. The former midfielder recalled his transfer from Fiorentina to the Milan club, a decision that drew strong criticism at the time: he was labelled a mercenary. His bond with the Inter shirt, however, remained central to his career and to his relationship with the supporters.
When assessing Cristian Chivu’s side, Berti used particularly meaningful words for Nicolò Barella and Carlos Augusto. The Sardinian midfielder was described as a true myth, while the Brazilian wing-back was called a genius. These two judgements underline the importance of a player who has become a symbol of the midfield and of a footballer who is increasingly influential on the flank.
The meeting with Fiorentina takes place today, Sunday 25 October, at 12:30 at San Siro. Inter enter the game after a 1-0 Champions League victory over Shakhtar and a 3-1 league win at Bologna. The schedule then includes Venezia-Inter on 28 October at 18:30 and the derby against Milan on 31 October at 20:45.
